American Airlines to Resume Flights to Athens on August 5

American Airlines has announced it will resume direct flights to Athens, Greece on August 5. No flights from the United States are allowed to land in the country currently due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first direct flights to Athens will be from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
In an official announcement, American Airlines remarked on how much international travel has decreased, and the new schedule reflects a low demand for international flights.
The new, updated schedule for European routes shows that most flights to Europe will also resume on August 5.
The air carrier guarantees that “American will continue robust cleaning procedures on all mainland departures, including expanded cleaning to disinfect seats, tray tables, seat buckles, air vents and other surfaces inside the aircraft.
“Other measures include electrostatic spraying of every surface of the interior of the aircraft, which eliminates 99.999% of viruses and bacteria within 10 minutes and creates a protective layer for up to seven days.”
Greece has closed its borders to regular international passenger flights until June 15 because of the coronavirus pandemic. On June 15, passenger flight arrivals will resume from certain countries which currently report low numbers of Covid-19 cases.
Greece’s Ministry of Tourism says that more countries will be continue to be added to the list, depending on the Covid-19 data as it continues to be updated.
A host of new guidelines and strict health protocols for tourism will be in effect in all tourist destinations. As Greece’s Tourism Minister, Haris Theoharis, has stated, this summer will be very different from any others experienced before.
Initially, American Airlines flights to Athens were scheduled to resume from the Chicago hub in June. It has only been one year since the Chicago O’Hare International Airport — Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport non-stop route was established.
