The arrival of 6,000 – 10,000 asymptomatic travelers infected with COVID-19 during the tourist season is inevitable, noted Manolis Dermitzakis, a renowned Genetics professor at the University of Geneva Medical School.
The professor spoke on Skai television on Friday, saying that among the tourists arriving from the “safe” 29 countries, inevitably there will be some carrying the virus but without showing any symptoms.
“When 6 to 10 million people are expected to come, there will definitely be some infected. So we have to find a way to deal with them,” the professor said.
Based on the number of people expected to visit Greece, Dermitzakis estimates that 6,000-10,000 of them will be asymptomatic, and some 600-700 will show symptoms.
The Genetics professor says that the estimated number of cases is manageable since Greece has showed so far that it can deal with the pandemic effectively.
However, the Genetics professor urged caution on the matter as many people who enter Greece will not be tested upon arrival.
