Greek Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis officially proposed on Monday evening that Greece and Britain end the mutual quarantines that have been placed on each other’s citizens upon entrance into their countries.

“If we don’t impose quarantines for people coming to Greece from the UK from some day onwards, we would welcome it if the UK extended the same thing,” Minister Theoharis told the BBC in an interview.

“We urge other countries, including the United Kingdom, to accept this as soon as possible,” he added.

As it stands now, the Greek Civil Aviation Authority had extended the mandatory 14-day quarantine on all people arriving from outside the country until the end of May.

Theoharis went on to praise the Greek health system’s response in protecting citizens as well as tourists, noting that the national health system in the country “is now stronger than ever.”

“We feel confident that the public health system can face any possible situation,” Theoharis stated unequivocally.
