Greece’s Deputy Minister for Civil Protection Nikos Chardalias announced on Tuesday that the town of Kranidi is now quarantined and under strict lockdown after a total of 150 refugees and migrants tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Under the new, mug more draconian measures, no movement of people will be allowed inside the entire town between 8 o’clock in the evening and 8 o’clock in the morning for the next fourteen days.
The elderly and those individuals who belong to vulnerable groups are strongly advised not to leave their houses for any reason for the next fourteen days.
Additionally, people in Kranidi will only be able to leave their houses for only two out of the total of six reasons all other residents in Greece are currently allowed to go out (for work, to go to the grocery store or pharmacy, etc).
These will include to visit a doctor or pharmacy and to buy food, and only in case these are not able to be delivered to their doors.
Kranidi, located in Argolis, on the Peloponnesian Peninsula, is part of the municipality of Ermionis.
It has a total population of approximately 10,000 people.
