Basketball superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and his family have donated 10,000 surgical masks to Zografou, the suburb east of central Athens where he first playing basketball as a child.
The Antetokounmpos made the generous donation to assist the local community of Zografou in hopes of making a difference at this extraordinarily difficult time.
Brothers Giannis, Thanassis, Kostas, and Alex, along with their mother Veronica, said they wanted to acknowledge the influence of the city’s sports team, Filathliticos, on the path taken by ”the Greek Freak,” the current NBA superstar from the Milwaukee Bucks.
The mayor of the municipality of Zografou said the masks would be distributed to the municipality’s staff and vulnerable residents.
“This generous gift acquires greater significance because it takes place at difficult times for the entire planet,” Mayor Vassilis Thodas said, adding that the family “confirms they have not forgotten our city.”
