Tens of thousands of desperately-needed personal protective equipment (PPE) items were handed over to the personnel of the Sotiria (Salvation) Hospital in Athens on Monday. The large facility now exclusively treats patients suffering from the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Health Minister Vasilis Kikilias traveled to the hospital to oversee the transfer of the items and equipment.
The PPE included tens of thousands of masks, visors, doctor’s and nurse’s gowns and gloves, as well as other hospital essentials.
These were acquired by the Greek state either by direct purchases by the state itself or from donations by corporations and businesses.
Earlier on Monday PM Mitsotakis referred to the psychological strain caused by the quarantine and in a post on his Twitter account, he later urged people to not hesitate to use the designated 10306 phone line to ask for psychological support from the experts in Greece’s NHS.
“During this difficult time, many of our fellow citizens may at some point need support. If you feel that you need support, do not hesitate to call 10306. We stay at home, we stay healthy physically — but also psychologically,” said the Prime Minister in his tweet.
