Greece’s deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Chardalias announced on Thursday that a total of twenty-three asylum-seekers from the refugee camp of Ritsona on the island of Euboea have tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Ritsona is the camp from which a woman was originally tested positive in Athens, after giving birth to a child in a hospital there.
Chardalias noted that the camp is now under strict quarantine, and no entry or exit is allowed. The measure will be enforced by the Hellenic Police.
No staff members at the camp have tested positive, and none of those who are positive has shown any symptoms of the Covid-19 coronavirus.
Personnel from Greece’s EODY will be now in charge of the residents’ health and well-being.

Chardalias also noted that out of a total of 380 tests conducted on those onboard the ship Eleftherios Venizelos off Piraeus, 119 have tested positive, while 259 were negative and two need to be re-tested.
Those who tested negative will gradually leave the ship, go to hotels in Athens and then will soon be repatriated, since most of them are foreign nationals.
Those who have tested positive will have to stay onboard the vessel for 14 days.
The ship will now be able to dock inside a designated platform at the port of Piraeus, which will be quarantined off from the rest of the port.
Mykonos Island
Following the positive test of a woman from Mykonos, which was conducted two days ago, Chardalias announced that all public and private construction work on the island will be suspended until further notice.
Additionally, Chardalias urged the inhabitants of Mykonos NOT to leave their houses and to remain at home. He also reiterated that additional measures will be taken in regard to the popular Aegean island so that there will be no further contagion.
It is noted that the total number of new cases of the novel coronavirus in Greece is now 169 and the death toll has reached 53.
