The video appeal of a Cypriot girl to President Nicos Anastasiades to get rid of coronavirus as soon as possible has gone viral.
The girl called Maria addresses Anastasiades as “Mr. Nikaros” and confuses the word “καραντίνα” (quarantine) with “καραμπίνα” (rifle). She says: “I do not want ‘καραμπίνα’ anymore. I want my cousins to visit me at home. I want you to tell coronavirus to leave and go somewhere else.”

Γλυκιά μου Μαρία καλημέρα… εδώ από την «καραντίνα» που είμαι κι εγώ, είδα το όμορφο μήνυμά σου και πείσμωσα ακόμη περισσότερο.Για σένα κοριτσάκι μου, για την οικογένειά σου, τις ξαδερφούλες σου που θέλεις τόσο πολύ να τις δεις.Για όλα τα παιδιά του κόσμου, για τα δικά μου εγγονάκια που πεθύμησα τόσο να αγκαλιάσω, θα συνεχίσω να δουλεύω για να μπορέσουμε όλοι μαζί σύντομα να βρισκόμαστε χωρίς φόβο, όπως κάναμε πάντα.Για να μιλάμε για τον κορωνοϊό και να είναι σαν ένα από τα τόσα παραμύθια που σου διαβάζουν η μαμά και ο μπαμπάς.Μία μέρα, σύντομα ελπίζω, θα ήθελα να σε δω εδώ στο Προεδρικό Μέγαρο, μαζί με τις ξαδερφούλες σου και να κάνουμε μία άλλη ανάρτηση που θα φωνάξουμε μαζί: «Κορωνοϊέ σε νικήσαμε. Με την «καραμπίνα» και με την υπομονή, με την επιστήμη και το κουράγιο όλων μας σε διώξαμε σαν κακό όνειρο.»Σε φιλώ γλυκά. Ένας παππούς που τυγχάνει να είναι και Πρόεδρος.

The hilarious appeal by Maria was answered by President Anastasiades who wrote in reply to the video message:
“My sweet Maria I saw your beautiful message and I am more determined…For all the children of the world, for my grandchildren that I have longed to embrace, I will continue to work so that we can all be together without fear, as we have always done.
“One day, I hope soon, I would like to see you here at the Presidential Palace, along with your cousins and make another post in which we will shout together: Coronavirus, we beat you!”
