March 27 Coronavirus Latest Updates: US Infections Now Outnumber China's

The US now has the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the world, overtaking China, according to Johns Hopkins University data. The global number of confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus has now passed the half-million mark.
Health authorities in Greece announced on Thursday that five more people had died  and 71 new cases have been recorded across the country since yesterday. The total number of cases in Greece has now risen to 892 and the death toll to 27.

22:03: The US has recorded 345 deaths from the virus in the last 24 hours.
20:40: Ieronymos II, the Archbishop of the Orthodox Christian Church of Greece, addressed the nation on Friday afternoon in a televised message. The Archbishop urged people to avoid going to churches, and instead, urged them to remain in the ”churches of their homes.” Full story. 
19:40: The United States House of Representatives voted in favor of a $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus package.
19:32: Coronavirus-related deaths in Cyprus rise to five, total cases confirmed now stand at 162.
19:04: The positive aspect of this is that 10,950 people have been healed in Italy after contracting the coronavirus, 589 more than yesterday.
19:00: Italy records 969 new deaths in 24 hours. The total death toll, according to ANSA news agency, has now reached a shocking 9,134. The new infections were 5,959.
18:29: Spain records 769 new deaths in a 24-hour period. 4,858 people have now died in Spain from the coronavirus pandemic.
18:09: The Thessaloniki International Film Festival has announced that it is offering short films on its Youtube channel for free.
18:06: 52 people have left the hospital after being hospitalized.
18:05: Greece records 74 new cases. 966 people are now diagnosed with the COVID-19 coronavirus. The death toll has risen to 28 in the country.
16:40: The total number of people who have died after testing positive for covid-19 in the United Kingdom has reached 766. This is an increase of 182 in a day.
15:50: Russia records a total of 1,036 cases, 703 of which are in Moscow.
15:20: The Greek government is preparing additional measures to prevent and manage a possible coronavirus outbreak in the country’s prison system, including the decongestion of jails. The government is expected to release prisoners incarcerated for lesser crimes.
15:06: British Secretary of Health Matt Hancock also tests positive for the Coronavirus.
14:53: Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis says that Thursday’s EU Summit was ”below expectations.” Mitsotakis was one of the eight EU leaders who ask for a stronger European response to the financial aspects of the pandemic.

 13:45: Greek Finance Minister Christos Staikouras on Friday announced a financial support handout worth 600 euros per person through a vocational program for doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc. and other freelance professionals, budgeted at 180 million euros.
13:30: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for the coronavirus but is said to be exhibiting “mild symptoms.”
“I’ve developed mild symptoms of the coronavirus, that’s a temperature and a persistent cough,” Johnson said in a video posted on his Twitter account.
“On the advice of the chief medical officer, I have taken a test and that has come out positive.
“I’m working from home and self-isolating. That’s entirely the right thing to do.
“I can continue, thanks to the wizardry of technology, to communicate with my top team and lead the national fightback against the virus,” the British leader added.

Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.

13:15: Spain’s health ministry has just released the latest figures, which show a new record single-day death toll from the coronavirus.
There have been 769 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 4,858. This is a new high – the previous record for deaths in the span of 24 hours was 738, which occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
The country now has 64,059 confirmed cases or coronavirus, up from 56,188 yesterday.
12:10: A 16-year-old French schoolgirl with no underlying medical conditions has become the youngest person to die of the coronavirus in Europe.

12:05: A spike in coronavirus patients means hospitals in and around Paris will reach saturation point within 48 hours, the head of the French Hospital Federation said on Friday, with the peak not expected until April, Reuters reports.
11:00: Another 115 people have died in the United Kingdom after testing positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths there to 578.
09:00: China will temporarily bar the entry of almost all foreigners and drastically reduce flights to the country as it tries to head off this second wave of infections caused by travelers coming there from abroad.
08:20:There are now 25 sailors who have tested positive for the coronavirus aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, just two days after the Pentagon announced that three sailors aboard the ship had tested positive for the virus, a Navy official has confirmed to CNN.
08:00: The US now has the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the world. Johns Hopkins University suggests the US now has more suspected and confirmed cases of Covid-19 than China had reported, with 82,404 victims in the US and 81,782 reported in China.
