Ieronymos II, the Archbishop of the Orthodox Christian Church of Greece, addressed the nation on Friday afternoon in a televised message broadcasted by Greece’s public broadcaster ERT2.
Ieronymos referred to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, saying that ”we all know that the human life and the life of the world is the highest gift of our Creator.”
For this reason, the Archbishop urged people to avoid going to churches, and instead, urged them to remain in the ”churches of their homes.”
“The common prayer of the Church always refers, with particular emphasis, to those unable to attend or participate in it, due to serious health reasons or due to any other reasonable reason,” the Archbishop noted.
Ieronymos also added that he is ”anxiously and emotionally watching the sacrificial efforts of our doctors and nurses,” and for this reason, he wished them good strength and health.
