The Greek Ministry of Migration and Asylum announced on Tuesday morning a series of new emergency measures to contain a potential coronavirus outbreak inside the country’s reception and identification centers, as well as its refugee and migrant camps.
All new arrivals of refugees or migrants in the country will have to be submitted to mandatory checks of their health, while those inside the camps will be receiving two daily updates and instructions announced in English, French, Greek, Arabic, Farsi and any other languages that are understood by the residents of each of the facilities.
The new measures also include the suspension of all visits by individuals or organizations and entities for at least fourteen days from today.
Entry into the camps will only be permitted to those carrying out specific and authorized work inside them.
All informal educational activities and all indoor activities offered to the refugees and migrants will also be suspended. These include library sessions, sports, and so on.
Additionally, migrants and refugees will now only be allowed to exit their premises in an organized and timely manner between 7 o’clock in the morning and 7 o’clock in the evening.
Special additional medical facilities will also be established inside the camps according to the new Ministry directive.
