American Jewish Committee Blasts Erdogan for Greek "Nazi" Diatribe

The CEO of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), one of the most powerful advocacy groups in the United States, took particular exception to an incendiary comment made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day the Turkish leader had launched a scathing new verbal attack against Greece, saying there is “no difference” between Nazis and the current Greek authorities.

AJC leader David Harris posed a question in his tweet responding to Erdogan’s nonsensical verbal attack, asking “Do migrants in Turkey face Holocaust? Are they fleeing for their lives? If so, Erdogan should be held accountable. If not, he should visit Auschwitz & learn about real Nazis.”

Erdogan was referring in his diatribe to the Greek security forces at Evros who are attempting to hold the country’s border against the influx of thousands of migrants and refugees who have been spurred to push into the European Union by Ankara.

“There is no difference between what the Nazis did and the images we are seeing from the Greek border,” Erdogan had told a meeting of his AKP Party’s parliamentary group in Ankara.

The Turkish President also referred to the Greek authorities as “barbarians” and “fascists.”

The American Jewish Committee, established on November 11, 1906, is one of the oldest Jewish advocacy organizations and, according to The New York Times, is “widely regarded as the dean of American Jewish organizations.”
