Event Honors Greek Constantinopolitan Authors in Istanbul

A special literary tribute to Greek Constantinople writers and poets was completed recently at the University of Istanbul’s School of Philosophy, an event organized due to the International day of Greek Language.

Greek and Turkish scholars approached through their in-depth views the work and personality of great Greek authors from Constantinople, including Petros Chronas, Maria Iordanidou, Dimitris Papakonstantinou, Omiros Bekes, Iosif Raptopoulos and many others.

Students of the Department of Modern Greek Studies read poems and excerpts from works of honored writers and sang traditional songs of Constantinople.

The event was also musically supported by composer Nikos Platyrachos, who performed piano works by Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, as well as his own compositions, traditional songs and classical repertoire.

The event was organized by the Department of Modern Greek Studies of the University of Istanbul in collaboration with the adjacent departments of the Ankara and Edirne (Andrianoupolis) Universities, as well as the Greek Foundation for Historical Studies, and the Greek Consulate General of Istanbul.
