Greek Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiades Varvitsiotis, along with a group of students and professors from the University of West Attica, presented on Monday the winning logo which will become Greece’s official emblem for the country’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of Europe.
“Greece, Europe and the human being are at the center (of the Greek Presidency),” Varvitsiotis tweeted.
”Congratulations to the Rector of the West Attica University, Panagiotis Kaldis, as well as to the graphic design school’s teachers & students who participated in the competition,” the Minister said.
The Council of Europe (CoE), which was established after the end of World War II, currently has 47 member-states representing a population of approximately 820 million people.
Sometimes it is wrongly confused with the European Union and its own, separate Council.
The CoE, an organization in which nearly all of Europe’s nations participate (apart from Belarus and Kosovo) has the declared aim of upholding human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe.
The nation of Greece will preside over this organization from May until November of 2020.
