An additional package of measures to protect the country against a coronavirus outbreak was decided at the Greek National Public Health Council, which convened on Monday, in the presence of Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias in Athens.
The measures include an increase of staff at state hospital laboratories and in Greece’s National Public Health Organisation (EODY), with emergency fast-track hiring procedures n ow in place.
After the meeting, Minister Kikilias announced the establishment of an intersectoral committee at the general secretaries and general director-level of ministries, aiming for better coordination among the country’s authorities.

Additionally, the National Public Health Organization from now on will obtain the authorization to immediately hire any additional staff needed to support public hospital laboratories with doctors, special scientists and task forces at the country’s borders.
“Finally, I would like to once again ask for responsible coverage on an issue of public health that is sensitive and concerns all the Greek society,” Kikilias told reporters at a press conference that followed the meeting today.
At least 29 samples have been sent in so far for coronavirus testing from all over Greece to special laboratories in the country.
They have all been examined and have all come back as negative so far for this new strain of coronavirus, so Greece has still had no active case of the virus at this point.
