The Parliament of Libya, which is controlled by forces led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, rejected the ratification of the military agreement signed in December by the Tripoli-based Libyan government of Fayez Al-Sarraj and the government of Turkey.
The deal between the Tripoli-based government and Turkey included provisions of Turkish military support to the governmental forces of Libya, which are fighting against the opposition coalition led by Haftar, which controls the vast majority of the country’s territory.
In addition to this military agreement, Tripoli and Ankara have now arbitrarily redrawn their maritime borders, an action which violates international law and disregards Greece’s sovereign rights in the region.
This deal has been condemned by all major global players, including Russia, the US, and the European Union.
The forces which support Haftar have vowed to confront any Turkish troops which might come to the country in support of the Tripoli-based government of Al- Sarraj.
