Tom Hanks’ First Tweet as an Honorary Greek Citizen

Tom Hanks tweeted a picture on Thursday wishing everyone a Happy New Year in Greek and highlighting the fact that he is now a proud honorary Greek citizen.

In his tweet, Hanks said ”Kronia Polla,” which is a Greek greeting used on many occasions, including birthdays and the wishes everyone exchanges on New Year’s Day.

His tweet included a photograph, believed to be of the island of Delos, where Hanks shot his shadow as it fell against an ancient Greek statue.

Just a few days ago, Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos signed the official papers granting the honorary naturalization of the famous American actor and philhellene.

The veteran Hollywood star is married to Rita Wilson, who is of Greek descent on her mother Dorothea’s side.

The iconic American film star has also been among the faithful of the Greek Orthodox Church for many years now, since he joined the Church when he married his wife in 1988.
