George Michael’s Sister Melanie Panayiotou Dies on Anniversary of Michael’s Death

Melanie Panayiotou, the sister of famed Greek Cypriot singer and former Wham! member George Michael, died on Christmas Day 2019, on the third anniversary of her brother’s death.

George Michael was found dead in his home in Oxfordshire, England, on December 25, 2016. He was just 53 years old at the time; coroners determined the cause of death to be fatty liver disease.

Panayiotou, who was just 55 years old, passed away suddenly. At this point, the cause of her death is still unknown. She worked as a hairdresser in North London, and was known to have loved her brother dearly.

She had recently given an interview to the BBC’s Big Issue about her brother and the movie “Last Christmas”, which was inspired by his music. She stated, “my family and I hope you all enjoy the film, and Yog’s [George’s] music old and new, woven beautifully into this fun, easy tale of love and self-love”.

Panayiotou is survived by her father, Kyriacos, and her older sister, who is 57.
