Death Toll From Thunderstorms Rises to Four in Greece; Parts of Rhodes Flooded

Two more people have died in Greece as severe thunderstorms moved to the eastern Aegean Sea on Monday evening, bringing the death toll to four.
On Rhodes, an elderly woman was found dead after her basement room flooded, and on Kos another woman drowned after going for a swim in the sea during bad weather.
According to a report by state-run news agency AMNA, the woman drowned when the water rose above the height of her bed during a torrential rain in the area of Ialysos, where she lived alone.
Footage from Rhodes shows extensive flooding. Cars in the town of Ialysos were swept away by the rushing water and a bridge on the Makkari river collapsed.

In parts of western Greece, hundreds of homes were flooded after heavy overnight rainfall.
The bodies of two men were recovered late Sunday and early Monday near the port of Antirio, 250 kilometers (155 miles) west of the capital, Athens, after their sailboat was caught in the severe weather.
Kineta, a beach town west of Athens that was described as being the worst hit by the storms. Emergency services said it could take days to clear the extensive damage in Kineta, where uprooted trees and rockfalls from surrounding hills also disrupted the road network.
