Greek Premier Kyriakos Mitsotakis warned Turkey to be more careful when it refers to Greece and its handling of the many thousands of refugees and migrants who have attempted to reach its shores.
Addressing the audience during the 4th EU-Arab World Summit held in Athens, PM Mitsotakis said that Greece has continued to receive disproportionate numbers of refugees and migrants compared to its relatively small population and size.
“My country has been receiving asymmetric flows of refugees and immigrants in recent months in relation to its size and population. Our remote islands are suffocating, and places on the mainland with host facilities face problems,” Mitsotakis noted.

”We control our borders and we always take care of the unfortunate of the world. But a country cannot bear the problems of three continents on its own,” the Greek Premier declared to the assembled leaders.
Referring to Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu’s recent remarks that Greek forces allegedly shoot at refugees’ boats, Mitsotakis said ”Those who utilized the refugee crisis using the most vulnerable as pawns to pursue their own geopolitical goals, should be more cautious when referring to Greece.”
”No wound heals by opening another one next to it,” the Greek Prime Minister asserted.
These remarks were made during the fourth European Union – Arab World Summit on Tuesday, which is currently taking place in Athens’ Concert Hall.
Concurrent with the summit, Mitsotakis is expected to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from a range of countries who are attending the event.
The EU-Arab World Summit is an international forum for economic and political dialogue between the European Union and countries in the Arab world.
The annual summit has taken place since 2016, when the international conference was first established in cooperation with the government of Greece.
