Another mostly peaceful demonstration of students organized by left-wing student associations ended in clashes in central Athens on Thursday.
Several hundred protesters attempted to overturn the riot police’s ”MAT” trucks, which had been parked vertically along Vasilissis Olgas Avenue in order to stop the demonstrators from reaching the Greek Parliament.
This was an almost identical incident to one which happened in the same place two weeks ago.
The clashes didn’t take on a larger dimension, but police officers were still forced to use tear gas to push the protesters back.
According to unverified information, one student and one police officer sustained injuries as a result of the clashes.
Yanis Varoufakis, the leader of the MeRA25 party, posted on Twitter that a member of his party’s youth group was injured during the clashes.

At the same time, clashes also erupted outside the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace in Thessaloniki, where students held another demonstration.
The students are in opposition to the decision of the government to abolish so-called ”University Asylum,” which will result in allowing police officers to enter the premises of universities, a major change from the practice of the past several decades.
They are also opposed to other reforms introduced by the current conservative government.
