19-Year Old Child Murderer from Petroupolis, Athens Released on Bail

The 19-year old mother who killed her own child after she gave birth to it in Petroupolis, Athens in 2018, was released on bail on Monday morning.
The Joint Circuit Court of Athens sentenced the young woman to five years’ imprisonment but she has been released on bail until her next appearance before a higher court.
The court found her guilty of the horrific crime but recognized that there were extenuating circumstances, including her young age.
The mother of the nineteen-year-old was also sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for her part in the baby’s murder, but she was released on bail as well, until their next court appearance.
The disturbing incident took place in February of 2018 in the district of Petroupolis in Athens.
The young woman gave birth to her child inside her own bathroom and then killed the newborn infant. She then allegedly threw the dead child into a trash bin with the assistance of her mother.
The daughter and her mother, who originally came to Greece from Albania, are not allowed to leave the country and they must present themselves at their local police department once a month until their next hearing, a date for which is yet to be determined.
