Greece Braces For Storms As Autumn's First Cold Front Approaches

Greece must brace itself for a cold front with heavy rainfall and a rapid drop in temperatures from Thursday onward, meteorologists said on Thursday morning,
The weather will deteriorate on Thursday and Friday with rainstorms that, in some cases, will be accompanied by hail, the Meteo service of Athens National Observatory warned.
Rain has already begun falling in western Greece while a heavy rainstorm has hit the island of Corfu hard.
Many areas of central and northern Greece are also expected to be affected before the evening, with temperatures dropping to autumnal levels.
Apart from most parts of Western, Northern and Central Greece, the city of Thessaloniki and most likely the region of Attica and Athens will be affected by the intense rainfall.

Disruptions in Western Greece
The heavy rains that hit Western parts of the country on Thursday morning caused major disruptions on the island of Corfu.
Many streets and roads were flooded in many villages across the island, and the Health Center of Agios Markos (Saint Mark) was also flooded, while many parts of the island experienced losses of electric power.
At the same time, in the county of Aetoloacarnania, houses were flooded in the village of Lesini, while the old highway between Antirio and Ioannina was closed for several minutes.
