Earthquake Measuring 5.6 on Richter Scale Strikes Crete; No Damage Reported

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck an area of the Mediterranean south of the island of Crete on Tuesday morning.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Center calculated the strength of the tremor as 5.6 on the Richter scale, while the Geodynamic Institute of Athens said the quake only measured 5.0.

The tremor took place at 10:48 in the morning local time, 477 kilometers southeast of Athens and 159 kilometers southeast of the capital of Heraklion, the capital of Crete.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the quake’s depth was estimated to be twenty kilometers (12 miles) under the Mediterranean sea.
The tremor was felt throughout the island of Crete and some of the Dodecanese islands, but no damage has been reported thus far.
