Betty White Lends Her Voice to Smokey Bear on 75th Anniversary

Betty White celebrated the 75th anniversary of Smokey Bear, the famous wildlife mascot meant to educate people about wildfire prevention, by lending her distinctive voice to the animation for a PSA.

With wildfires ravaging many parts of the US and the world in the past few years, leading to massive forest destruction, Smokey Bear’s message is more important than ever.

To celebrate 75 years of the mascot’s existence, various celebrities decided to voice the famous kid-friendly bear, who is usually voiced by Sam Elliott. Besides Betty White, those celebrities included Stephen Colbert, Al Roker, and Jeff Foxworthy.

The Ad Council, along with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, make up the Cooperative Forest Fire Prevention (CFFP) Committee. The committee is responsible for all campaigns involving Smokey Bear.

Ad Council President Lisa Sherman addressed the 75th anniversary of the famous bear, saying, “this coalition of partners has created an extraordinary legacy for Smokey Bear over the past 75 years, and the Ad Council is so proud to be part of Smokey’s story….Very few advertising icons have stood the test of time the way Smokey has, and thanks to our favorite bear, individuals across the nation know they play an important role in helping to prevent wildfires.”
