A reckless driver in Karavomylos, a village near Lamia in Central Greece, hit a 14-year-old boy and another teenager on bicycles, with the first succumbing to his injuries at the hospital and the other sustaining only slight wounds from the accident.
The victim who passed away is the twin brother of one of the five teenagers who were riding bicycles on Thursday night, according to local news website LamiaReport.gr.
Reports say that shortly before 10:00 pm on Thursday, a 44-year-old Albanian man who was driving at high speed crashed into a group of teenagers on bicycles in Karavomylos.
According to witnesses, five boys were riding their bicycles on the Achinos-Karavomylos road. A car heading at great speed in the same direction, towards Karavomylos, suddenly struck them without warning.
Reportedly, the driver did see the boys at the last minute, but he was speeding too fast to avoid striking the group. He maneuvered in order to avoid the first bicycle, but then lost control and struck the second and third bicycles in the group.
As a result of the crash, one of the twin brothers was seriously injured and died in intensive care at the hospital, while his brother and a friend of theirs avoided being struck.
