The Turkish Foreign Minister Hulusi Akar was in the occupied part of Cyprus on Thursday, where he made a statement during a celebration of what the Turks call ”Erenköy Resistance.” This refers to the battle of Tillyria, the armed conflict between Greek and Turkish Cypriots, which took place on the island in 1964.
The Turkish Anadolu news agency is reporting that Akar said Turkey ”will never tolerate a usurpation of the rights of Turkey and Turkish Cypriots with a fait accompli.”
Akar also claimed that Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots are trying to achieve peace and stability in the region, addeing that ”we hope that all relevant parties, especially the Greek Cypriots, understand our conciliatory and sincere approach and respond in kind.”
“Turkey is the most powerful guarantor of peace and stability in the region,” Akar also stated, according to the same report.
