The Greek national basketball team which will soon travel to China to compete in this year’s World Cup was presented to the public in Athens on Thursday.
The entire team was there, including this year’s MVP of the NBA, Giannis Antetokounmpo, along with his talented brothers Thanassis and Costas.
The Basketball World Cup 2019 tournament will take place in China beginning on August 31. The games will be played in eight cities, including Beijing, Dongguan, Foshan, Guangzou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Wuhan.
The Greek team will have its first game against the squad from Montenegro on September 1.
The Greeks will then be slated to play against Brazil on September 3, and the team from New Zealand two days after that.
If Greece finishes in one of the first two places in that round, they will then compete against two teams from the group consisting of the USA, Turkey, Japan and the Czech Republic.
Speaking with Greece’s state-run AMNA news agency, the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo stated that, for as long as he remains healthy, he will be playing for the nation of Greece.
”I’ve played for Greece’s national team for four years. For as long as I’m healthy, I will be playing for Greece. And now, I’m healthy and I want to play with the teammates,” Antetokounmpo told reporters.
Greece’s best performance in basketball’s World Cup was in 2006, when the team knocked out the Americans in the semifinal. The Greek team played in that year’s final against Spain, where they lost, taking second place.
