149 People Drowned in Greek Seas in the First Half of 2019

The number of people drowning in Greece‘s seas has increased by a shocking rate.
The Greek Coast Guard revealed 149 people died in the sea from January until July 24, 2019. 98 people drowned over the same period last year.
In total, 2018 was the worst year in Greece’s history in terms of drowning incidents, as 294 people died while they were swimming.
Experts say that if the trend of the first half of 2019 continues, it is highly likely that the record-high number of 2018 will be surpassed in 2019.
Authorities in Greece warn people to be vigilant and follow simple rules that can save their lives while they’re in the sea.
People are advised not to swim when they have consumed alcohol when they have eaten food, and parents are urged to be watching their children whilst they are swimming.
