Sweltering Temperatures Expected to Sweep Across Greece This Weekend

This weekend is expected to be an extremely hot one in Greece, as temperatures are set to rise over the next several days, according to meteorologists.
Greece’s National Meteorological Service (EMY) and the Meteo team from the National Observatory of AthensĀ are forecasting that the cooler, northerly winds responsible for keeping the temperatures in Greece at bearable levels over the last few days, will gradually subside beginning on Saturday morning.
On Saturday, Athens and several locations across mainland Greece which are at low altitudes will see the temperatures rise up to 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
On Sunday, the situation is expected to become even worse as temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) are projected to hit the plains of Thessaly and the city of Larissa.
Meteorologists expect a high temperature of 38 degrees (100 degrees Fahrenheit) for Athens on that day.
The extraordinarily high temperatures are expected to continue into Monday as well, but the weather will gradually become unsettled, with showers and storms perhaps passing through the western and northern parts of the country in subsequent days.
The last several days have seen extraordinarily hot temperatures hit most parts of Europe. The heatwave which swept across France, the UK, the Benelux countries and Germany broke all-time records in all of these nations, reaching an almost-unimaginable 42.6 degrees (109 degrees Fahrenheit) on Thursday in Germany.
Below you can see all the all-time record high temperatures that were recorded in one day in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.

The heatwave across Europe meant that a number of temperature records were broken on Thursday.Germany (42.6 Ā°C), Belgium (41.8 Ā°C), Luxembourg (40.8 Ā°C), and the Netherlands (40.7 Ā°C)
