Art Museum of the Americas Hosts Nia Tavlarides Stratos Exhibition

Well-known artist Nia Tavlarides Stratos has had the distinction of having her exceptional artistic work exhibited at the Organization of American States’ Art Museum of the Americas (AMA) in Washington since July 15.

Tavlarides Stratos is the first American artist to exhibit her collection in this prestigious art museum, and is, of course, the first artist of Greek descent to do so.

Her exhibit is titled “Revelation, Illumination, Transformation.’’ As Tavlarides Stratos explained to the Greek Reporter, ”it explores the relationship between art, empathy and tolerance.”

The opening reception for the exhibition took place on July 18, and Tavlarides Stratos had the distinct honor of presenting her artwork to the newly-enthroned Greek Orthodox Archbishop of America, Elpidophoros.

As the museum itself notes, ”Using her rich vocabulary of color, movement, and space, Stratos engages with the notion that art is transformative for individuals as well as communities.”

”Through her canvases,” the AMA’s statement notes, ”the artist explores the relationship between empathy and tolerance, understanding and appreciation. These insights, illuminated, have the capacity to transform individuals, and by extension, our world.”

Tavlarides Stratos completed her studies at the University of Maryland, has also been awarded a scholarship to study further at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery.

Her work has been exhibited in The National Museum of Women in the Arts, The National Portrait Gallery, Washington National Airport, and the Children’s National Medical Center, among other locations.

The Art Museum of the Americas exhibition will last until August 2.
