Greek Police Reveal Slain American Scientist was Raped; Suspect Charged

The distinguished American scientist Dr. Suzanne Eaton at Germany’s Max-Planck Institute.

Senior police officers in Crete described the tragic events leading to the brutal murder of 60-year old American scientist Dr. Suzanne Eaton during a press conference on the island on Tuesday.
Crete Police chief Lt. Gen. Constantine Lagoudakis told reporters that the suspect, a Greek man from the island, had confessed to the “violent criminal act” and would be charged. A second man has been detained for questioning as an alleged accomplice.
Lagoudakis said that the 27-year old Cretan raped his victim, a distinguished scientist who worked at Germany’s Max-Planck Institute, before killing her.
The suspect came across Eaton as he was driving through the town of Kolymbari on July 2, the day that she was reported missing.
According to Lagoudakis, he hit Dr. Eaton with the car in order to immobilize her, and she was unconscious when she was thrown into the trunk of the car. The suspect drove to a cave, a disused bunker system complex that the Nazis used during WWII, near the town of Maleme, where he raped her before choking her to death.
The place chief told the assembled reporters that “The motive of the murder was sexual.”
Athletic, Adventurous and Family Man: Profile of Suzanne Eaton’s Killer
A profile of the allegedly-confessed murderer has surfaced, as his presence on social media was constant, something that had made him ”famous” among the social media community of the island and beyond.
Athletic, an adventure lover and nature explorer, the 27-year old presented an image of himself that was anything but that of a sadistic killer.
Constantly active, with a passion for Asian martial arts and specifically for Shaolin Kung Fu, the 27-year old suspect was passionate about his internet presence.

Despite his obvious lack of education, which was easily spotted by the way wrote on social media platforms, the suspect’s profile there presented an image of someone who loved nature and its hidden secrets, as well as his family.
A family man who suddenly turned into a cold-blooded murderer? This appears to be the case on this distressing crime.
Married three years ago, the alleged killer is now the father of two children, something that makes this case even more tragic to follow.
The son of a priest and a permanent resident of Maleme on Crete, the suspect knew the  area very well.
He once uploaded videos showing his exploration of the complex bunker system that the Nazis had established in the region during WWII.
This of course, proved to be one of his crucial mistakes, as the police authorities could very easily see after the heinous crime that the remote location where the dead body of Suzanne Eaton was found, was well known to the suspect.
