Bad Weather Causes Severe Damage in Achaia & Nafpaktos, Greece

Heavy rainfall caused severe damage in the areas of Achaia on Saturday and Sunday in the Peloponnese and in Aetolia-Acarnania, in Central Greece.
Houses flooded, road pavements were damaged and automobiles were destroyed. Firefighters helped free people who were trapped in elevators, basements, tunnels and streets in Nafpaktia and Achaia, overnight and early Sunday morning.
In addition, the firefighters were also tasked with freeing 1,000 people who were trapped in a nightclub in the area of Drepano, Achaia as the nearby stream swelled and flooded the surrounding area, including the venue.

Meanwhile, the Athens-Macedonia News Agency reported that the authorities in Napaktos will lodge a request to declare a state of emergency in the Makyneia and Platanitis areas following the extreme storm that swept through Achaia and Aetolia-Acarnania, according to the local mayor Panagiotis Loukopoulos.
