Greek Political Leaders Cast Their Votes in the General Election

Greeks are taking their fate in their own hands, main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, a favorite to win the elections, said after casting his ballot on Sunday.
After voting in Peristeri, in Athens’ northwestern district, Mitsotakis said, “Elections are democracy’s great celebration. I stand respectfully before the people’s verdict.”
“Today, Greeks are taking their country’s fate into their own hands,” he added. “I’m certain that tomorrow will bring a better future to Greece.”
“The country’s progress to the future should not be disrupted,” Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said, after casting his ballot in general elections on Sunday at a central Athens voting center.

“This is a day of democracy and Greeks will be deciding for the future of the country in the next four years,” Tsipras said at statements after he voted. “They will be deciding about their lives.”
“I believe this is a crucial battle, we are fighting it with optimism and decisiveness until the last-minute so that the sacrifices of our people do not go to waste.”
Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Fofi Gennimata said: “Reason returns today through people’s vote. A vote for KINAL is crucial for the interests of the people and political stability. We are proud of our progressive identity.”
Communist Party (KKE) leader Dimitris Koutsoumbas said: “We vote so we can be stronger tomorrow…to open a brighter path for us and our children.”
Former Conservative premier Antonis Samaras said: “As of tomorrow, we will start rebuilding a Greece of growth, justice, and dignity.”
Former Socialist (PASOK) premier George Papandreou stressed: “We vote for hope, for those who do not want to see Greece painted in the blue of conservatism, but not a country where the left has co-existed with conservatism and even has conservative practices, as it turned out.”
