The US envoy to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt was involved in a cycling accident in Mani, Peloponnese, and he has been transferred to Athens after receiving first aid at a local hospital.
In a message on Twitter on Friday, Pyatt sent a message of thanks to the Areopoli health center and all those who called to say “perastika”.
A US Embassy spokesman said that he had injured his hip bone and he would undergo surgery on Saturday. He dismissed earlier reports that he broke both legs.

The American diplomat was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as United States Ambassador to Greece on May 19, 2016. He was confirmed on July 14, 2016. Pyatt’s U.S. State Department career landed him posts in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
