Fire Service Evacuates Town in Greece's Evia as Wildfire Approaches


Residents from the town of Makrichori, in central Evia, have been evacuated by the authorities on Thursday as a precaution against the large wildfire that is approaching the settlement.
The fire service says that the fire broke out early in the afternoon. It added, that 60 firemen, four fire-fighting aircraft and two helicopters are trying to contain the flames before they reach the town.
Their efforts are being hampered by the strong winds.
