Greece’s President, Prokopios Pavlopoulos, met with a group of Greek American students in the Presidential Mansion of Athens on Monday.
The group of students from the American-Hellenic Institute was headed by Nick Larigakis, the Chairman and Executive Director of the Institute.
During his speech, Pavlopoulos referred to the current geopolitical situation of the region by saying that ”Greece wants to live in peace with all its neighbors but they [the neighbors] have to respect international and European Law, respect the borders, the territory, the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Greece, which is the border, territory and EEZ of the European Union itself.”
The President also underlined the importance of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, which Turkey is among the very few nations that has not signed it. He pointed out that it is an integral part of international law.
”We are the first to understand the value of peace, but we are also the first to understand what the defense of international and European law means,” Pavlopoulos noted in his speech to the students.
