An exhibition of Greek artist Takis’ most prominent works will kick off on July 3rd at the Tate Modern Institute in London.
The exhibition will last until October 29th and will host some of the most important and intriguing artworks by the famous Greek artist.
According to the British Art Institute, this will be the largest exhibition of Takis’s work to be ever held in the UK.
It will bring together over 70 works of the Greek artist, whose career has produced antennae-like sculptures he calls Signals, and musical devices using the power of electricity and magnets along with the participation of the viewers to generate resonant and random sounds.
”Such inventions earned Takis the admiration of the international avant-garde, ranging from the American Beat poets to artists such as Marcel Duchamp”, Tate notes in its announcement.
The exhibition has been organised by Tate Modern in collaboration with MACBA Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona and the Museum of Cycladic Art of Athens.
Takis, born Panagiotis Vassilakis, is a 94-year old artist who is very popular in France and other countries of the world. He currently lives in Athens, where he has created the so-called ”Takis Foundation”, a Research Center for the Arts and the Sciences.
