The Greek unemployment rate fell to 19.2 percent of the workforce in the first quarter of 2019. This rate is a substantial decrease from the 21.2 percent seen in the same period last year, but an increase from the rate of 18.7 percent for the fourth quarter of 2018, the Greek Statistical Authority said in a report released on Thursday.
The statistics service said that the actual number of unemployed people in Greece totaled 907,061 in the period from January-March, up 3.0 percent from the previous quarter, but down 9.4 percent compared with the corresponding period in 2018.
West Macedonia, South Aegean and West Greece recorded the highest unemployment rates of all the different regions of the country.
The number of employed people was down 0.5 percent from the previous quarter, but up 2.4 percent compared with the same period in 2018.
A total of 45.2 percent of employed people reported that they worked 40-47 hours per week, while 24 percent said they worked more than 48 hours.
Two percent of Greek workers also reported that they are working a second job.
