A body belonging to another one of the seven victims of Nikos Metaxas, alleged to be the Cypriot serial killer, was found on Wednesday afternoon in the area of Xyliato, inside Memi Lake.
The body of a six-year old girl called Sierra, who was believed to have been brutally killed by the National Guard officer, was found after months of intense searching by Cypriot and foreign special forces.
According to initial reports from Cypriot and Greek media, a number of coroners and experts are currently rushing to the site of the recovery.
Marcos Tragolas, the chief of Cyprus’ Fire Service, told journalists that he was deeply moved by the discovery of the young victim, but he was satisfied that the corpse of the innocent girl had finally been found.
Cypriot authorities had already approved a proposed plan to partially drain the lake in order to find the body, but this was called off at the last moment upon Wednesday’s grim discovery.
Earlier this year, Nikos Metaxas, a Greek Cypriot officer from Cyprus’ National Guard, confessed to murdering seven women and girls in what local media have been calling the island’s first serial killings, the most brutal murders ever seen on the island.
