Greek Foreign Minister Katrougalos Meets With Russia's Lavrov

Greek Foreign Minister George Katrougalos and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov met on Thursday in Saint Petersburg.
The two senior officials stressed the need to further strengthen the already-solid Greek-Russian relations at their meeting in the historic Russian city.
Their meeting was held within the framework of the International Economic Forum which is taking place in Russia.
After the meeting, Katrougalos told Greece’s state-run AMNA news agency “Greece and Russia have had historically good relations, and a common belief is that these relations will be strengthened in all areas.”

The minister also said that Greece will serve as a bridge between the European Union and the Russian Federation, adding that there can be no European security system without the participation of the Russian Federation.
The meeting of the two men was held in the historic Konstantinovsky Palace, which was renovated and opened in 2003 by then-Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis, as Greece held the Presidency of the European Union that year.
