NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg said on Monday a Skopje audience ”NATO is ready to welcome you,” referring to North Macedonia and its bid to join the powerful military alliance.
Delegations from NATO and North Macedonia met on Monday in Skopje, and Stoltenberg made it clear that everything is ready for the Balkan nation to officially join the organization.
In February, all 29 NATO members signed the accord which allows the ex-Yugoslav state to become the newest nation in the 30-member US-led alliance.

Zoran Zaev, the Premier of North Macedonia, noted that his country will start to increase its military spending to meet its obligation of spending two percent of its GDP for military purposes by 2024.
It is noted that North Macedonia’s army is among the smallest in the entire alliance, and this is the reason that it allows Greece to patrol its airspace.
