MP Megaloeconomou Resigns from SYRIZA Ahead of National Elections

Greek MP Theodora Megaloeconomou resigned from the SYRIZA party on Tuesday afternoon and is standing now as an Independent, leaving the embattled Greek government with one less member of Parliament representing them.
Megaloeconomou sent a letter to the Speaker of the House Nikolaos Voutsis to inform him of her decision.
The former whip from the small “Union of Centrists” party was elected in 2015 to represent the Piraeus B’ constituency.
She resigned as that party’s whip in July of 2017 and after six months standing as as an Independent, she joined the Parliamentary group of SYRIZA in January, 2018.
Megaloeconomou has been a controversial figure ever since her election.
The politician has appeared on Greek television shows countless times, where she became widely known for her explosive temperament.
