Tina Fey Makes Surprise Appearance on “SNL” For Mother’s Day

Tina Fey made a surprise appearance on her former show “SNL” on May 11 for Mother’s Day, along with friend and frequent co-star Amy Poehler.

Emma Thompson was the host for the night, with the Jonas Brothers as the musical guest.  Fey and Poehler joined Thompson on stage in her opening monologue.

The three actresses humorously offered “language lessons” on how to interpret what your mother may actually be telling you. Examples used include, “You look tired,” which actually means “You look bad”; “Can we just not talk about politics?” means “Please don’t ruin Joe Biden for me — he’s what I picture.”

Fey and Poehler then offered their own regional “Mom eccentricities,” from Philadelphia and Boston, respectively.

Emma Thompson’s daughter, Gaia, was also in the “SNL” audience. Fey has two daughters, Alice and Penelope. She has given them both very Greek middle names; Alice’s middle name is Zenobia, after her Greek grandmother, while Penelope’s middle name is Athena.

“SNL” frequently has current and previous cast members show up to pay tributes to their mothers on the show before Mother’s Day. You can watch the full opening monologue, featuring Thompson, Fey, and Poehler, above.
