The President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and his wife Andri were hosted by the Charles, the Prince of Wales, at a Buckingham Palace celebration in London on Monday evening.

The Royal family and the British government jointly hosted the event celebrating British-Cypriot relations, Cyprus’ membership in the Commonwealth, and UK Cypriots’ contribution to British public life throughout the years.

Guests included more than 150 scientists, businessmen, artists, academics, professionals and other members of the Cypriot diaspora in Great Britain who have excelled in their professions.

Among them were the economist Christopher Pissarides, the scientist Kypros Nicolaides, businessman Theo Paphites and many others.

In his speech, President Anastasiades thanked His Royal Highness for the invitation and his hospitality for the special event. The festivities marked the first time that the Cypriot diaspora and the bilateral ties of the UK and Cyprus were formally celebrated at Buckingham Palace.

On his behalf, Prince Charles noted that the island of Cyprus has long captured the imagination of the British ”who have been falling in love with it,” as the island’s influence over the years has been felt far and wide.
