A new poll for the upcoming European Elections was published on Monday by the European Parliament.
According to its findings, the center-right European People’s Party (EPP) is expected to remain the largest party in the Parliament, with far-right populist parties set to win many more seats than they already had in 2014.
The European Parliamentary poll is the average of the latest national polls conducted across the EU.
The Greek main opposition center-right New Democracy party enjoys the support of 36 percent of voters and is expected to win nine out of the twenty-two Greek seats in the European Parliament.
The ruling left-wing SYRIZA party is expected to garner 24.7 percent of support, and be awarded with 6 seats. Golden Dawn, the ultra-nationalist, xenophobic party which enjoys the support of 8.6 percent of Greek voters sits in third place.
Golden Dawn is followed by the Social-Democrat Movement for Change (KINAL) with 7.9 percent and two seats, the same number as the Communist Party of Greece, which is expected to attract 6.7 percent of the vote.
Parties such as the Centrists’ Union, to Potami and ANEL currently have the support of less than 3 percent of voters, thus gaining no seats in the upcoming Parliament, according to the poll.
The general trends shown by the poll at a European level is for the Socialists to lose a significant amount of power; far-right parties, the Greens and the Liberals are projected to be among the winners of the election.
