Another round of severe wintry weather, including snow across many parts across Greece, is expected to hit the country between Tuesday and Thursday, the National Meteorological Service warned on Monday.
The new cold front will bring heavy rainfall to parts of Crete and the islands of the Aegean during Wednesday and Thursday.
The northern, central and eastern parts of the Greek mainland will see snowfall not only at high altitudes but even in the lowlands of Macedonia.
Temperatures are expected to fall sharply from Tuesday onward, starting with the northern parts of the country, where the thermometers will plummet to sub-zero temperatures. Widespread frost is expected across the nation in the early hours of Wednesday.
Gale- and near-gale-force winds of 8 Beaufort will blow in the Aegean Sea on Thursday, rising to 9-10 Beaufort locally.
Beginning on Friday, the weather is expected to become much milder and sunny in most of the country, as the cold weather system finally moves eastward.
