Highway That Connects Athens With Thessaloniki Blocked By Farmers

Farmers from across central parts of Greece blocked the main highway that connects Athens with Thessaloniki in the area of Tempi on Saturday morning.
In what could be the start of a series of wider protests, the farmers of the area of Nikea in Thessaly’s Larissa went on the highway with their tractors and blocked the traffic for more than two hours.
According to their representatives, the Government has not received them yet in order to discuss their demands.
The farmers both in Nikea and in other parts of Greece, such as in West and Central Macedonia, are holding meetings in order to decide their next moves, with most of them being in favor of further protests in the upcoming days.
The Tempi tunnels were given back to traffic at around 16:00 local time (14:00 GMT).
The farmers are taking these actions because they desire better taxation and lower social security contributions, among other demands.
