FYROM's NATO Accession to Be Ratified by Greek Parliament Next Week

The protocol for FYROM’s accession to NATO will be brought before the Greek Parliament on Monday, according to a decision made by the council of the president and the deputy presidents on Thursday.
The procedure will follow typical parliamentary procedures, with the discussion in the committee being held prior to the discussion in the plenary.
The final vote is expected to take place on Thursday, February 7, 2019.
If the Greek parliament ratifies FYROM’s accession to the NATO alliance, the Prespa Agreement will then officially come into effect. Greece’s neighboring country will then change its official name to the “Republic of North Macedonia”.
Steps to be taken after the final vote include Athens informing Skopje of the Parliament’s decision, and Skopje in turn informing Athens that the Agreement has come into effect.
FYROM will then inform the UN and the rest of the international community that the country’s name has now been officially changed to North Macedonia.
