Lanthimos’ ”The Favourite” Nominated for 10 Oscars Including Best Picture and Director

”The Favourite,” a film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, has been nominated for 10 Academy Awards, the Academy announced at a special event which was broadcast from Los Angeles on January 22.

Lanthimos’ movie made waves for its scandalous portrayal of royal life, as well as the fact that it focused on the interactions of three intriguing female leads. Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz, and Emma Stone were all commended for incredible performances, with great chemistry apparent between the three.

The film, co-produced by Yorgos Lanthimos and written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara, will compete in ten different categories: Best Director, Cinematography and Production Design, Best Picture, Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Olivia Colman), Original Screenplay, Production Design, Film Editing (Yorgos Mavropsaridis), Achievement in Costume design and Actress in a Supporting Role (Rachel Weisz).

The film, which pulled in $36 million at the box office, is a co-production of producers Ceci Dempsey, Ed Guiney, Lee Magiday and Yorgos Lanthimos. It was made in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States.

The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on February 24, 2019.
